Subdivision Blues

After inquiring about my life insurance, my son decided it was time to get this old lady off the couch and on a bike. I live in an area that has a lot of biking and hiking trails, so I was all for it. Sure, why not…. He brought over a girl bike and we were off. To get to the biking trail we had to peddle our way through two or three different subdivisions, and ride by a golf course. There were several hills; of course I was seeing them as MOUNTAINS. I would huff and puff my way half way up and then I would get off the bike and push it the rest of the way up. Going down was great; if I got my speed up I could cruise to the next mountain I mean hill. I was doing pretty good considering.

Life Insurance inquiry is a joke.

While I was on my way to the biking trail I notice all of the houses I was passing by. They all looked the same and they were so close together you couldn’t walk between them. I lived in the country for 40 years. After that I lived on the road. Even though I am in an apartment at this moment I am so glad I do not live in a subdivision. There is something strange about opening a window and finding out that you can shake hands with your neighbor providing that her or his window is open. I like my TV loud and my music even louder. Of course for right now I have to be considerate with my neighbor that I share a wall with.

The song I was singing was a Tom T Hall song, Subdivision Blues.
Out on the edge of town I bought a two room brick
Moved in as soon as I got the plumbin' all fixed
Making them payments worked my fingers to the bone
Anything I had to do to get myself a home.
There was water in the basement it looked like a swimming pool
The man said son that water'll help to keep your cottage cool
The Welcome Wagon brought me out some sleepin' pills and booze
I got the mean old subdivision blues.
 Irony -
1. The humorous or mildly sarcastic use of words to imply the opposite of what they normally mean
2. An instance of this, used to draw attention to some incongruity or irrationality
3. Incongruity between what is expected to be and what actually is, or a situation or result showing such incongruity

My irony is my dog has a sleeping disorder…. I am an insomniac.
